What's on the Ballot

Why is the 1 mill back on the ballot this November?

The current 1-mill was approved by Duval County voters in 2022, and under Florida law, voters must consider its continuation every four years.

The 1 mill has helped support teacher compensation and efforts to recruit and retain qualified, certified educators. Since 2022, teacher vacancies have declined, teacher retention has increased, and Duval County Public Schools has become an A-rated district for two consecutive years.

As we approach the November election, we’ll be sharing factual information to help our school community understand what the 1 mill is, how the funding is used, and what voters will be asked to consider.

1 Million on the November ballot

Good evening, families!

Thank you for hanging in there with us today. The district maintenance department located the issue, and we are hoping that all systems will be good for tomorrow. We will test the system around 7:00 am before students arrive to ensure we are set up for success in the morning. A special shout-out to our teachers, staff, and students today for keeping their focus and rolling with the day. The week can only get better from here!

I did not get a chance to send home the form for written communication for Progress Reports and Report Cards due to the power outage. As long as we are up and running in the morning, that form will go home with students tomorrow.

Some great news is that we have been given an extension for our popcorn fundraiser! They have extended the deadline through Wednesday at 5:00 pm. Continue to help us with our goal! Also, the top 10 sellers will earn that lunch with me! It will be VIP treatment!

Thank you all for your continued support! I'm looking forward to a calm and boring Tuesday!

Good morning,

The district is on site trying to repair the power and AC outage. Students are fine. We are preparing lunch at another site and having it delivered to the school. We are working on an adjusted lunch schedule. If you have any questions, please reach out to the school. Once we are back up and running, I will let you know!

I'll update you once we are up and running!

Welcome back, families!

October continues to be a busy month. I highlighted a few events below:

The first nine weeks will be coming to a close on Friday, so teachers will start finalizing those grades soon. If your child has any make-up work or homework that needs to be turned in, please make sure they do this before Friday.

Wednesday is National Walk Your Student to School Day. We will have the Blue Zone Project and the district on campus for this event to welcome all students and parents who choose to walk their child to school this day. Lots of volunteers will line the sidewalks and welcome them to school. Feel free to get a picture and enjoy the event. This is also an opportunity to encourage walker safety and drivers on the road to be cognizant of students walking and biking to school. We have over 200 walkers who make their way to school each day.

Both Ms. Love and Mr. Alston's Kindergarten classes will have a field trip to the Jacksonville Public Library on Thursday. Their buses will leave at 9:30am so make sure kids are to time to school.

Friday is our school-wide Picture Day. We will have pictures from 9:00-12:00. Please make sure students are on time. If you arrive late and your child's class has already been through the picture line, they will have to wait for our makeup day in November. Students can wear their school uniforms, or they can dress in their Sunday best! This picture will be in our yearbook. Parents will also be able to purchase packages as well.

Remember this is our first year going completely digital for progress reports and report cards. However, you will be able to request paper versions of progress reports and report cards. We chose to go digital because the district has encouraged us to be fully digital through a parent focus account. Through the parent focus account you are required to register students for buses, complete magnet and special assignment request for students, update home addresses and parent contact information, upload required documents, and access Thrillshare/Rooms. As your children move into Middle and High school this parent focus account will be even more of a requirement. However, if you wish to access paper copies of progress reports and report cards, please complete the form and return it to your child's teachers this week before Friday.

Let's have an amazing week everyone! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! See you on Monday!

SAC / PTA Meeting tonight at 5 pm

Welcome Back Rutledge Pearson families!

This is your weekly update for the week of September 28th through October 2nd. We have a pretty busy week ahead, so I highlighted the events below:

This is the start of FTE Week. It will run through October 9th. Attendance is extremely important for FTE. Please make sure students are at school and on time.

Our Good Pop Popcorn Fundraiser starts on Monday at 5 pm and closes on Monday, October 5th at 5 pm. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the school so we can increase our rewards for Attendance and Behavior through field trips. The top 10 sellers will win lunch with Ms. Adkins. They can order, and we will eat VIP in the conference room with a TV. I appreciate your support in advance!

Our first SAC and PTA meeting of the school year will take place on Tuesday at 5:00 pm in the Media Center. Our PTA finally has the all-clear! After years of working through three schools' former PTA's and re-establishing ourselves, we finally have a brand-new EIN number, and we are ready to get started! Please come out and be a part of something special and new! See you then!

We will have a Meet and Greet for our 3rd grade teachers, Ms. Aderhold and Ms. Frazier, that are new to the grade level. It is an informal visit. The Meet and Greet will be on Thursday, October 1st from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We are scheduling meet and greets this week for Ms. Metellus and Ms. M. Jones. So please be on the lookout for this invite soon.

We will have two field trips this week. The first one is for half of the kindergarten classes on Thursday, October 1st and the other half will attend the next Thursday, October 8th. They are going to the Public Library. Our 5th graders are going to Jacksonville STEM Academy to participate in various science activities and also experience a middle school opportunity. 110 of our 5th graders will attend on Friday, October 2nd. Look for permission slips on Monday.

We are looking forward to a great week! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. We will see you on Monday morning!

Progress Report - 1st Nine Weeks
Good evening, everyone,
I wanted to give you an update on the changes that will be happening to our School Community

We had a decrease in enrollment by 50 students. As a result, we must surplus of three teachers to other schools with higher enrollment. Losing three teachers will also result in moving teachers around to ensure our students receive the best education.

Many difficult conversations with staff and students will start tomorrow. A letter will go home about the changes with those students who are affected between Wednesday and Thursday. The actual changes will go into effect on Monday morning.
We will set up opportunities for conferences or a smaller open house for those students that have been affected.

I wanted to make sure you are aware of the changes that will be happening at Rutledge before they started. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Welcome back Tiger Nation! I hope you had a great weekend! We are back for another great week! Here is an update on what we will have going on this week.

State Testing will start this week for kindergarten and 1st grade. This will be an all-week event since they must complete both Reading PM and Math PM. They usually test in small groups, which is why the week long window. Please make sure all students are on time each day. We will have breakfast at school each morning. We will start with testing groups right at 9:00 am. This is a baseline to see where they are and what we need to do to push them forward. Once testing is completed, parents will receive a data sheet to let them know where their child scored.

Progress Reports will be published in FOCUS for you to view on your parent account on Wednesday. The district pushed back on publishing progress reports due to district Wi-Fi and FOCUS concerns. That problem is being corrected this weekend.

Dads and Donuts will be on Thursday from 8:00 am-8:30 am. It will happen in the car rider drop-off. We will have donuts and reading information for dads, granddads, uncles, or pastors as they drive through the car rider line on Thursday morning! We are doing this method because of the state testing we have going on this week. So, calling all father figures out there...drive your student through the line, receive a donut, take a picture with our staff and student, and get information to help your student at home! We will be out in the line from 8:00 am-8:30am. We are excited to see you on Thursday! Look for a flyer on Monday to come home!

Have a great rest of your weekend! See everyone on Monday morning!

Open House for 3rd - 5th grade

Good evening RHP Families,

A few mid-week reminders for everyone.

2nd-5th grade will continue testing tomorrow for Day 2. We had 30 students in 2nd-5th grade who were absent and missed Day 1 of testing, out of 473 students who were tested. I am looking for 100% attendance tomorrow in those grade levels. No makeups are the goal! Make sure students are on time and in good spirits! We will start testing around 9 am.

Open House is tomorrow (Thursday) for 3rd-5th grade. We will open the doors at 5:50 pm and start promptly in the cafeteria at 6:00 pm. We will start with a few announcements and introductions and then move to classrooms. Remember, this is not a chance to have a conference. This is to get information about expectations for your child this school year and what you can do at home to help! Open House will end at 7:15 pm. The class that has the most students who attend will receive a pizza party!

We are excited to see students for testing tomorrow and parent's tomorrow evening!

Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday to observe the holiday. Enjoy this time however you decide to celebrate it.

This week, we will have state PM1 testing for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. We will test on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Please make sure you are on time for school because we will start on time at 9:00 am. Students will eat breakfast at school, so make sure they are on time to do so. This assessment can last the majority of the day, so make sure that students are well-rested by going to bed early the nights before testing. State testing can be mentally draining, so they need the rest. Encourage students because this assessment will contain a lot of information they have not been taught yet. They are being tested on end-of-year grade-level material. We want them to try their best and give it their all.

Open House for 3rd-5th grade will be on Thursday from 6:00 pm-7:15 pm. We will open the doors at 5:50 pm and start in the cafeteria first at 6:00 pm with some announcements, updates, and introductions. We will then break out into classrooms. Open House will end at 7:15 pm, so please make sure you are on time so that you can learn about what your child is doing and what you can do to help your child at home.

Progress Reports will be available through your child's Parent FOCUS account on Friday. We will not print and send Progress Report or Report Cards this school year. Student grades will be available only through FOCUS. If you do not have a parent portal account, please look into getting one set up as soon as possible.

Vision and Hearing for Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade will occur on Friday in the morning. We will start at 9:00 am so please make sure they are on campus for those screenings.

Have a great and safe Labor Day weekend. We will see you all on Tuesday morning!
