Miles has officially made it to MASSACHUSETTS, and this Mustang adventure came courtesy of Connor and Grayson’s dad and older brother! 💙🇺🇸
They made sure Miles was along for a pretty fantastic New England road trip!
⚾ FIRST STOP — BOSTON!
On August 21, Miles headed to historic Fenway Park to watch the Boston Red Sox play—and they WON! 🎉⚾❤️
Fenway Park opened in 1912 and is the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball. And apparently Miles decided that if he was going to experience Boston baseball, he needed to look the part...
🧢 So, of course, he bought himself a Red Sox hat! 😂🐴
Looking good, Miles!
But his Massachusetts adventure wasn't over...
👻 NEXT STOP — SALEM!
On August 22, Miles traveled to Salem, Massachusetts, a city famous for its colonial history and the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Today, Salem gives visitors an opportunity to learn about this complicated chapter of American history while exploring a beautiful and historic New England community. 🍂🏘️
Baseball, history, Boston AND Salem—Miles certainly packed a lot into this trip!
A HUGE Mustang thank you to Connor and Grayson's family for taking Miles along and helping us add Massachusetts to our Mustangs Across America adventure! 💙
We especially love seeing our Mustang families get the WHOLE family involved in helping us reach our goal! 🐴🗺️
Another state checked off...and we're getting closer! ✔️🇺🇸

We can officially add another state to our map thanks to one of our amazing Mustangs, Camden Wingate and his family! 💙
Camden made sure Miles had a spot on the family travels as they explored the beautiful Gem State — IDAHO! 🐴
And this adventure included a little bit of nature, science, history…and ducks! 😂🦆
🏞️ Snake River & Snake River Canyon
Camden and Miles visited the beautiful Snake River and Snake River Canyon. The Snake River travels more than 1,000 miles through the Pacific Northwest, carving some pretty spectacular scenery along the way!
⚛️ A Little Science History!
Their Idaho travels also took them near Arco, home to Experimental Breeder Reactor No. 1 (EBR-I).
Here's a pretty amazing Idaho fact: In 1951, EBR-I became the first nuclear reactor in the world to produce usable electricity! 💡⚛️ It was also designed to demonstrate the concept of a “breeder” reactor—one capable of producing additional nuclear fuel as it operated.
Who knew our little Mustang would learn about nuclear science on his summer vacation?! 🔬🐴
And then Camden provided us with one final piece of important Idaho information...
🦆 DUCKS.
Yep. Ducks. 😂
Snake River. ✔️
Nuclear energy history. ✔️
Beautiful Idaho scenery. ✔️
Ducks. ✔️🦆🤣
We think Camden covered all the important stuff!
A HUGE Mustang thank you to Camden Wingate and his family for taking Miles along on their adventure and helping us officially add IDAHO to our Mustangs Across America map! 💙🐴
Every trip gets us a little closer...

🐴 MUSTANGS ACROSS AMERICA: ON THE ROAD WITH COACH HAYES! 🐴
This Mustangs Across America adventure is an extra-special one because our beloved Coach Jim Hayes made sure Miles had a seat for his summer travels! 💙
Although Coach Hayes may be retired, once a Mustang, ALWAYS a Mustang! And apparently, retirement just means he has a little more time to help Miles see America! 😂🐴🚗
⛳ FIRST STOP — DENVER, COLORADO! 🏔️
Coach Hayes and his best friend traveled to beautiful Denver, Colorado, where they competed together in a golf tournament. Of course, Miles tagged along for the fun! Between the golf course and those beautiful Rocky Mountain views, we'd say Miles had a pretty great Colorado experience. ⛳🏔️
Then it was time to hit the road...
🚗💨 NEXT STOP — MICHIGAN!
Coach Hayes road-tripped back to his home state of Michigan to spend some time with his mom—and Miles got to come along for that adventure, too! ❤️
⚾ And what would a trip to Michigan be without some Detroit baseball?!
Miles joined Coach Hayes AND Coach Hayes' mom for a Detroit baseball game! ⚾🐴 We think that officially makes Mrs. Hayes part of the Mustang family, too! 💙
There is something pretty special about seeing one of our longtime Mustangs enjoying retirement, spending time with his best friend and his mom, and STILL thinking about the students and families back at Chaffee Trail. He could have left Miles at home...but where's the fun in that?! 😂
Coach Hayes, thank you for taking us along for the ride! We love you, we miss you, and we are so glad that retirement hasn't stopped you from being part of our Mustang adventures. 💙🐴
From Florida ➡️ Colorado ➡️ Michigan, Coach Hayes and Miles are helping us get closer and closer to our goal!

Our Mustangs Across America adventure is getting SO CLOSE to reaching all 50 states! 🗺️💙
We have a little over ONE MONTH LEFT to complete our mission before our challenge officially ends on October 1!
But we still need your help! 🙌
Take a look at our map. 👀 Do you have family, friends, former neighbors, college friends, or relatives living in one of the states that Miles or Mave hasn't visited yet?
📬 Send them a Miles or Mave “Flat Stanley style” and ask them to take our Mustang along on an adventure! We would LOVE pictures at a landmark, favorite local spot, state sign, park, restaurant, school—or anywhere that helps tell us something special about their state.
🌎 Our Mission: ALL 50 STATES BY OCTOBER 1!
We've already traveled thousands of miles, visited some incredible places, and learned so much about our beautiful country. Now we just need to fill in those final few states!
Come on, Mustang families—WHO CAN HELP US COMPLETE THE MAP? 🇺🇸🐴💙

Look who made it all the way to the Pacific Northwest! 🌲🐴
Mave and Miles have officially arrived in OREGON, thanks to a special friend of Mrs. Doyle and fellow educator, Julie Lee! 💙
Many of our local families and educators may recognize Ms. Lee from her years teaching right here in our community. She is a former Baldwin High School and Frank H. Peterson Academies agriculture teacher who is now continuing her work in education while teaching students on the beautiful West Coast! 🌱🍎📚
And thankfully, she agreed to take two little Florida Mustangs along for the adventure! 😂🐴🐴
📍 First Stop: Multnomah Falls!
Located in Oregon's beautiful Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls drops an incredible 620 feet, making it the tallest waterfall in Oregon! 💦⛰️ The famous Benson Bridge provides one of the most recognizable views of this Pacific Northwest landmark.
And YES...we have photographic proof that Julie, Mave and Miles really made the trip! 🤪🤣 Julie even sent Mrs. Doyle the original picture before graciously allowing herself to be "erased" so our two Mustangs could have the spotlight! 😂📸
But their Oregon adventure isn't over yet...
🚗💨 NEXT STOP: CANNON BEACH! 🌊
Mave and Miles are headed to the Oregon coast, where they'll get a look at the Pacific Ocean and hopefully catch a glimpse of the famous Haystack Rock!
How cool is it that a friendship between two educators is helping our students travel and learn their way across America? 💙
A HUGE Mustang thank you to Julie Lee for taking Mave and Miles along for the ride and helping our students experience a little piece of life on the West Coast! 🌎🐴

Miles is on the road again, and this time Kason helped him make his way to the Hoosier State — INDIANA! 🐴
📍 INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
Indiana became our nation's 19th state in 1816 and is known for its Midwestern hospitality, agriculture, love of basketball, auto racing, and plenty of Hoosier pride! 🏀🌽🏁
Kason and his family gave Miles quite the tour!
🦕 The Children's Museum of Indianapolis
Miles visited the world's largest children's museum! With five floors and more than 470,000 square feet, there is LOTS to explore. You might recognize it by the giant dinosaurs that look like they're bursting right through the building! From dinosaurs and space to world cultures and American history, this was the perfect stop for a traveling Mustang! 🚀🌎
⭐ Monument Circle
In the heart of downtown Indianapolis stands the impressive Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Completed in 1902, this 284-foot monument honors Hoosiers who served our country in wars before World War I. 🇺🇸
🎖️ Indiana War Memorial
Miles also had the opportunity to visit this beautiful landmark honoring the service and sacrifice of America's military veterans. Indianapolis is home to an incredible collection of monuments and memorials dedicated to those who have served our nation. ❤️🤍💙
🏈 Lucas Oil Stadium
Of course, Kason couldn't visit Indianapolis without seeing the home of the Indianapolis Colts! 🏈 This massive stadium has hosted everything from NFL football and NCAA Final Fours to the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, when a football field was amazingly transformed into a swimming venue! 🏊♂️
❤️🤍 And this trip has an extra-special Indiana connection!
Kason's mom is a proud Indiana University graduate — Class of '99 and '02! 🎓
And what a time to be a Hoosier! After decades without a football national championship, Indiana University completed an unbelievable 16–0 season and captured its first football national championship! 🏆🏈
Talk about a lesson for our Mustangs: Big things can happen when you believe, work hard, and refuse to give up! 💙
Thank you to Kason and his family for taking Miles along and helping our Mustangs learn more about Indianapolis and the great state of Indiana!
Where will Miles or Mavis turn up next? 👀🗺️

Miles has made his way to the Sunflower State — KANSAS! 🌻
A huge thank you to Graycelyn Phelps, who sent Miles “Flat Stanley style” all the way to Wichita, Kansas! 📬🚗🇺🇸 And WOW—Miles got to visit some pretty cool pieces of Kansas history!
📍 Keeper of the Plains – Wichita, Kansas
Miles stopped at the incredible Keeper of the Plains, a 44-foot-tall steel sculpture standing where the Big and Little Arkansas Rivers meet. Created in 1974 by Native American artist Blackbear Bosin, the Keeper has become one of Wichita’s most recognizable landmarks.
🍕 The Original Pizza Hut!
Yes, THAT Pizza Hut! 🍕 Miles also visited the site of the very first Pizza Hut, founded in Wichita in 1958 by brothers Dan and Frank Carney. They borrowed just $600 from their mother to get started! The original building has since been moved to the campus of Wichita State University.
And Graycelyn's family sent us some great Kansas facts to help our Mustangs learn along the way!
🌻 State Flower: Sunflower
🐦 State Bird: Western Meadowlark
⭐ State Motto: Ad Astra per Aspera — “To the stars through difficulties.”
🇺🇸 Kansas became the 34th state in 1861.
🌾 Kansas is one of America's leading wheat-producing states.
📍 The geographic center of the contiguous United States is located near Lebanon, Kansas.
✈️ Wichita has a rich aviation history and has long been known as the “Air Capital of the World.”
🐄 Kansas also played an important role in the great cattle drives, with famous destinations like Abilene and Dodge City.
And here's one our students might recognize: Amelia Earhart was born in Kansas! ✈️
Thank you to Graycelyn Phelps and family for helping Miles explore another part of our great country and for sending us so much wonderful information about Kansas!
🗺️ Another state on our journey Mustangs Across America — From Sea to Shining Sea! 🇺🇸🐴💙

NO transportation changes will be accepted through the Front Office after 12:00 noon.
Parents may make transportation changes directly through PikMyKid until 2:00 p.m.
Whenever possible, please establish permanent and consistent dismissal arrangements for your child rather than making frequent changes. Frequent transportation changes can create confusion and, most importantly, impact student safety during dismissal.
Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe, organized, and efficient for all of our Mustangs!

Mustang Families — We’re Off to a Great Start!
Dear Mustang Families,
What a GREAT first week of school! In spite of a little Florida weather, a few unexpected bumps in the road, and some very long days, our Mustangs had an incredible start to the 2026–2027 school year!
Our students spent the week learning and practicing the rituals and routines that will help make this a safe, successful, and productive school year. Students attended our Welcome Back assemblies, where we talked about what it means to be a Mustang, reviewed important parts of the Student Code of Conduct, discussed FortifyFL, and introduced the safety drills and procedures we will practice throughout the year. Our goal is always for students to understand not only what we do to stay safe, but why we do it.
We also welcomed our youngest Mustangs to the corral! Our Pre-K and Kindergarten students did an amazing job learning their new routines, meeting new friends, and adjusting to their school days.
And yes…those days were LONG! As you will see in a few of our pictures, some of our littlest travelers simply ran out of gas while waiting for dismissal. They played hard, learned a lot, and apparently decided dismissal was the perfect time for a quick roadside nap!
Throughout this week’s slideshow, you’ll see just a glimpse of the learning, laughter, friendships, and special moments that made our first week so memorable.
We are excited about all the possibilities a new school year brings, and even more excited that we get to take this journey with YOU!
A Few Reminders for the Week Ahead
Arrival
Our instructional day begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please help us get students to school with enough time to arrive in their classrooms and be ready to learn.
Please make sure students have their backpacks and dismissal tags with them each day.
A few things will help us keep our car line moving safely and efficiently:
Please have students ready to exit when you enter the unloading area. Backpacks, lunch boxes, and other belongings should be in their laps rather than in the trunk or elsewhere in the vehicle.
Once you have passed the crosswalk, pulled forward, and come to a complete stop in the unloading area, students who can exit independently do not need to wait for a patrol to open their door. They may safely exit the vehicle and head toward the building.
If your younger Mustang needs assistance getting out of the vehicle, we completely understand! Please pull as far forward as possible so one of our team members or patrols can assist.
Please continue to follow the directions of staff members working the arrival line. Having everyone follow the same procedures helps us move hundreds of Mustangs into the building quickly and safely!
Dismissal
Thank you for your patience as we worked through first-week dismissal—and especially through our weather challenges!
Please continue to follow your child’s assigned dismissal procedure and have your school-issued car tag ready and visible when using the car rider line.
If you make a dismissal change in PikMyKid, please also communicate that change directly to your child’s teacher. This extra step helps us avoid confusion and ensures everyone has the same information.
Transportation Changes
Please communicate dismissal or transportation changes as early as possible. This gives our team time to make sure the correct information reaches everyone responsible for getting your child home safely.
Stay Connected
Please continue checking Rooms for classroom updates, important information, and pictures from your child’s teacher. Staying connected helps make sure you don’t miss anything happening along the way!
Saddle Up Assessments Begin This Week!
This week, we will begin assessing the skills included in our Saddle Up Summer Learning information.
These skills will look different depending on your child’s previous grade level. They represent important skills students learned during the previous school year and were encouraged to practice over the summer.
Flag Raising Friday
We will hold our Flag Raising Ceremony this Friday!
We invite all of our Mustangs to show their school spirit by wearing their Mustang Spirit Shirt or patriotic colors as we come together as a school community for this special tradition.
We made it through Mile #1, Mustang families, and we are just getting started!
Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and partnership during our first week. We are looking forward to another wonderful week of learning, growing, and making memories together.
Buckle up, Mustangs…Life is a Highway, and we have a whole country—and an entire school year—ahead of us!

Good Morning Chaffee Trail Elementary School families
I want to make you aware that the school experienced an air conditioning outage prior to student arrival this morning. District maintenance teams responded quickly, and the AC unit has been repaired and is now up and running.
The school is beginning to cool down and should return to normal temperatures soon. Please know that your student’s safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we will always keep you informed about what is happening on our campus.
Thank you for your patience and continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at the school. Thank you, and have a good day.
First, we want to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding during dismissal today. We experienced quite a few unexpected challenges. First lightning, then a power outage, followed by an issue with PikMyKid. We know delays can be frustrating, and we truly appreciate your patience as we worked to safely dismiss all students.
We also want to celebrate our students! Today, we practiced our first schoolwide safety drill, and our students did a wonderful job learning and practicing our lockdown procedures. Safety drills will be practiced monthly so that our students and staff are prepared and confident in knowing what to do.
Additionally, students participated in training today where we reviewed our Student Code of Conduct and learned more about FortifyFL, which provides a way for students to report potential or immediate dangers and safety concerns.
Thank you for your continued partnership & entrusting us with your students. Have a wonderful evening & we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
Thank you for your understanding
