Good afternoon and thank you all for an amazing 5th week of school! I also want to say thank you for your patience/consideration as we have moved through the first few weeks and the changes that happen due to budget and staff reallocation. While we have had to make a few changes, we have been incredibly lucky to retain every faculty/staff member here at San Jose!!! Also, a big shout out to Ms. Gayle for being our 26/27 Teacher of the Year. She is truly an amazing educator and one of San Jose’s best! Here are a few updates for week 6.
Reminders
- Doors open at 8:00am each morning and students will begin breakfast at 8:15am.
- We have been noticing a number of students being dropped off very early. Please know there is no supervision by faculty members before 8:00am unless you are registered for extended day. For safety reasons, we ask that students not be dropped off before 8:00am.
- Walkers Update: Students that are walkers will be released at 3:00pm. Kindergarteners will still need to be picked up by their parent.
- Bus Update: The bus company is still working to get buses to and from San Jose on time. Most buses are arriving to the school by about 3:15/3:20. We also have transfer students coming in from other schools. This means buses have been leaving the school by about 3:30/3:40. We highly encourage parents to download the EduLog app to track your student’s bus. I will also continue to send messages if buses are leaving later than 3:45/4:00.
- Car Riders: Please make sure to have your car rider numbers visible on your dashboard to help car riders move as smoothly as possible.
- Progress Reports: Due to internet connectivity issues last week, the progress report posting deadline was moved to Tuesday 9/15. Progress reports will be posted the following day.

Instruction
- State testing is just about finished. We will be using the data we get to help guide instructional decision making.
- Attendance: Please try your best to ensure your student is at school every day (unless they are sick). Students automatically earn BIZI Bucks for being present at school, and being here ensures they receive as much instruction as possible!
Positive Behavior Intervention Systems
- BIZI Update- Everyone is getting excited about BIZI. Students can earn BIZI bucks by showing good behavior and meeting behavior expectations. They can then spend those virtual bucks in the school BIZI store. We are so excited to be able to provide positive incentives for great behavior.

I want to start by saying thank you so much for the work you do every day to help support your child and this school. For the past three weeks we have been monitoring the number of students across all grade levels. Now that we have a clear view of our enrollment, we are starting the process of balancing class size to ensure we get as close to the normal class size as we can.
As a result of this process, we have already selected some classes we can change immediately due to lower-than-normal student counts. If your student is affected by this, they will be given a letter explaining the switch and who their new homeroom teacher is. In many cases, a student’s teachers will not change, just the homeroom they go to in the morning.
While I understand these changes can be new, I want to say that this process will allow for more balanced classes and the opportunity for a greater focus on instruction. As we work through what needs to be done over the next week, I will continue communicating any information you need to know. Until then, I thank you for your patience, understanding, and willingness to work with us. This community is truly amazing, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you as the principal of San Jose Elementary. GO PANDAS!!!
