Hello Normandy Village Elementary School parents, this is Assistant Principal Palmer calling. First, I want to assure that all students and staff are safe. However, our lockdown alert system was activated today due to reports that a student may be in possession of a firearm. It was quickly determined that the item in question was a toy gun, and the lockout was lifted within five minutes.
We have been in contact with the family of the student involved and we will be managing this as a disciplinary matter.
This incident does provide a good opportunity for me to remind everyone to check your student’s belongings daily and talk with them about what is appropriate to bring to school. Prohibited items at school include, but are not limited to, knives or guns of any kind. You can review a detailed list of prohibited items with your student in the Student Code of Conduct on the district’s webpage at www.duvalschools.org/conduct on the bottom of page 26.
I also want to thank the students who reported the presence of the prohibited item to staff. Sharing information about potential security risks to our school is a vitally important part of school safety. As always, thank you for your support in keeping our students and staff safe.
