Groundbreaking at Frank H Peterson Academies of Technology

Sept. 15, 2025 – Chickens, rabbits, cows, and goats. For students attending Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology, working with animals in the classroom and on campus is part of the school’s rich, hands-on learning environment.

Soon, those same students will have access to a nearly 8,000-square-foot facility designed to support real-world career education. The school marked the expansion with a special groundbreaking ceremony attended by district leaders and local officials.

The $2.5 million project is funded through a Florida Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive (CAP) Grant. Two existing buildings will be renovated to create modern agricultural spaces supporting the school’s Veterinary Assisting, Principles of Agribusiness & Management, and Animal Science and Services program pathways.

Highlights of the new facilities include:

  • A state-of-the-art mock surgical lab where students can gain hands-on training for veterinary careers.

  • Upgraded animal facilities for rabbits, chickens, and goats, including more than 1,000 feet of new fencing to create a one-acre secure pasture, plus a fully enclosed barn with multiple stalls and a tack room.

  • A new 5,100-square-foot pole barn designed for outdoor instruction, complete with electricity, water, and large fans.

District leaders say the investment in the school's Career and Technical Education programs will better prepare students for success after graduation, equipping them with the skills and experience to enter the workforce confidently.

“It’s really good on your résumé, and it’s super helpful if maybe you’re not sure if you want to go to college,” said senior Brandi Acadimia. “You can get straight into the workforce and start helping your community.”

“I just really like the animals—learning the background of agriculture, and that agriculture is the backbone of America,” said junior Abbygail Boom.
