July 30, 2025 – As Team Duval prepares for the start of a new school year, scores of students are entering with the skills they need to be successful in kindergarten. Thanks to the district’s Summer Voluntary Prekindergarten, or VPK, program, students spent weeks focusing on everything from academic foundations to routines and rituals.
Teachers say students got an upper hand on the 2025-26 school year –– all while having a good time.
“Students learn through play,” said VPK teacher Laronya Finn. “It’s fun, but it’s also educational.”
Team Duval News visited John Love Early Learning Center as students engaged in Summer VPK activities. Watch the video below to see the program in action.
