Volunteers provide essential services to our school and are most welcome. We encourage you to respond to our requests for volunteers. Let us know what you enjoy doing.  Appropriate dress is appreciated.

A Volunteer Orientation video can be accessed HERE to familiarize volunteers with guidelines and procedures. When you come into the building for volunteer work, always sign in and out at the front lobby desk and wear the badge you are given. Your volunteer hours help us win recognition from the State Department of Education.

State Regulations require that all volunteers have a background check. This is for the safety of ALL of our students.  There are two levels of DCPS Volunteer Clearance.

Level I Volunteers: These are volunteers who are always under the direct supervision of district staff and are never alone with students.  Level 1 screening includes a check against the Dru Sjodin National Sexual Offender Public Website.  There is no fee for this screening, but it requires an online application on the district’s website. This clearance is good for 2 years.

At CCE you must have Level I Volunteer Clearance to help in the classrooms, volunteer at most PTA events during the school day (book fair, health screenings, picture day) and to eat lunch with your student.

Level II Volunteers/Chaperones: These are volunteers who may be out of district view of staff or responsible for supervising students, such as chaperones.  Level II screening includes a finger-print based background check, a review of felonies and other criminal offenses, and a national sexual offender registry check. There is a fee for this screening, which is paid by the volunteer.  The fee is $74.50 (subject to change.)  This requires an online application on the district’s website.  This clearance is good for 5 years.

At CCE you must have Level II Volunteer Clearance to chaperone all field trips (including Safety Patrol’s trip to DC), spend the day with students on grade level tradition resource days, volunteer at certain PTA events during the school day (Holiday Shop, NANA's Nook) and work with students outside of classrooms.
